Outlander season 4 and the next promotion move for Starz

Earlier today, we had the latest rather-great reveal when it comes to Outlander season 4: The official key art! With the premiere almost two months away, this is around when Starz likes to get their preliminary promotional campaign started.

If you missed it, we recently shared some of our thoughts on the key art. Simply put, it’s stunning, from the overlook to Jamie and Claire facing the new horizon together. The tagline is almost smart and well-emphasized, since that tells you almost immediately what this new season is going to be about. Starz has always done a good job with key arts for this show and we certainly don’t think that this is any exception. We did wonder if the network was going to try and include other characters in here somewhere similar to season 2, but given that most of the marketing is typically around Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s characters, we’re not altogether surprised by this. Sometimes, keeping this simple is keeping things best — and there’s still a surprising amount of complexity in here.

So what lies ahead now? Given that there is a teaser, a premiere date, and now the official date out there, we expect an official trailer at some point during the month of September, something that runs for longer than a minute and gives you a better sense of the story, the new characters (Aunt Jocasta!), and hopefully a little more Roger and Bree. The most substantial promo that we’ve seen of them so far is one official photo from a little earlier in the year. It feels high time for more. We do think that the trailer will be out there before the cast’s New York Comic-Con appearance in October. That’s the next official appearance featuring the entire cast together; as of right now, many cast members (including Sam and Caitriona) are working on other projects.
