Last Man Standing season 7: See Molly McCook on set as Mandy!

Last Man Standing

There are a number of reasons to be excited about Last Man Standing season 7, but Molly McCook’s version of Mandy is going to be one of the most intriguing.

Earlier this summer, it was announced that the actress (who is also set to appear on Freeform’s Good Trouble) is going to be replacing Molly Ephraim in the role, and we always said that the show was going to emphasize talent over just finding someone who physically resembled the original actor in the role.  Obviously, McCook is taller and has blonde hair, but we like that the producers aren’t just trying to shoehorn into just what Ephraim did with the character — the proof comes via a set photo via McCook’s own Twitter account. She’s going to have some of the original Mandy’s style, but it seems as though she is keeping her hair color. It feels like an easy thing to write into the script; Mandy dyed her hair. There you go.

Anyhow, what really matters more so than the new Mandy’s look is how the character is integrated into the story, and hopefully there are some funny and interesting ideas that the writers have for her. With the show being off the air for so long, hopefully the team behind-the-scenes took advantage of that opportunity to come up with some more interesting uses for these characters. Given that everyone is older, we do think that there is some room to explore some different avenues in their lives. The Baxter kids have all grown up and that leads to opportunities to explore new avenues and challenges for both them, Mike, and Vanessa. The more the show keeps its original tone while evolving its characters, the better it will be.

Last Man Standing returns to Fox on Friday, September 28.
