Mindhunter season 2 finds its Charles Manson in Damon Herriman
As you may have heard, Herriman is set to play the infamous criminal in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — with that said, it turns out that he already played Manson previously for Mindhunter season 2 on Netflix.
According to a report from Collider, Herriman actually filmed many of his scenes as Manson back in July. While his casting in the Tarantino film was announced earlier, he actually was cast in Mindhunter first and overall, this is a super-interesting situation. It’s not often that you see an actor take on the same character in two very different projects.
The Mindhunter iteration of Manson is one that will already be behind bars in the early 1980’s, which makes some sense given that the second season is set to feature the Atlanta Child Murders, which was roughly in the same time period.
Now, it is very curious as to which version of Herriman’s Manson is going to be available first. While Netflix ordered a Mindhunter season 2 many months ago, they haven’t been altogether in a hurry to announce a premiere date. More than likely it will be ready at the very latest by 2019, but it’s not entirely clear just when in the year that will be. The Tarantino version of Manson will hit movie theaters next summer.
For Mindhunter, the most important thing is likely just going to be making sure they have the right release window and the strongest story possible. The first season was the subject of mostly-positive reviews and developed a reputation for being one of the creepier shows out there. (Ed Kemper was one of the most fascinating and terrifying TV figures of all of 2017.)
