Ruth Wilson suggests ‘bigger story’ behind exit from The Affair
In a new profile over at the New York Times, the actress (who played Alison before the character was killed off in the penultimate episode this season) made it clear that her exit was not about pay parity, something that had been gleamed based on past comments that she had given. Beyond that, though, she claimed that it was a “bigger story” that led to her exit and declined to talk further … other than reiterating, once more, that she is not allowed to talk about it. When the Times reached out to executive producer Sarah Treem, she reiterated the same statement that she had given in the past on the subject.
One of the strangest things about this mystery is that Wilson is that in her repeatedly saying that she cannot talk about her exit, she’s basically making people more curious as to why. We’re starting to think that this is going to go down as one of those things that we’re never going to get an answer on, including why Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi ended up not filming their final season on The Good Wife together. We just have to accept that this is the way it’s going to be and move on.

The final season of The Affair will premiere on Showtime in the new year and while it’d be great to get answers on Wilson’s exit, we imagine that it’s not going to be anywhere near as big of a priority to get information by then. Ultimately, it just feels better at this point to move forward.
