Could Power end on Starz with season 7? It’s certainly possible…

Power

Are we getting close to the end of the road when it comes to Power on Starz? While that doesn’t seem to be the case, it may be time to start looking towards the future with the endgame in mind.

On this past episode, the series made the biggest move that it has to date in choosing to write out 50 Cent’s character of Kanan. He was killed off in a pretty violent, gruesome fashion, and what that death likely does is set up enormous divides between many of the show’s characters, whether it be Ghost and Tommy or Tariq (who is responsible in part for his death) and his parents. It is something that still has to come home to roost.

So as for why the show chose to kill him off now, it seems as though a part of it has to do with how close the show could be to the end. Speaking via Deadline, here is what 50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) had to say on this subject:

“The decision was made early on when Courtney and I discussed how the arc of Kanan’s story would end. You see, we slated the show to go seven seasons initially, because we created it with the success of The Sopranos in mind.”

While series creator and producer Courtney Kemp did not confirm to the site that the series is still set to conclude with season 7, she did make it clear that there is only so long she sees it going with her at the helm:

All I’ll say is that this iteration of the show with me as the showrunner, that iteration of the show is going to have to end because the story that I wanted to tell is almost over. That has to be the way that it is, otherwise we’re going to end the show badly. We’re going to end the show really in like a whimper instead of a bang, and I need it to be a bang.

As of right now, Power has already been renewed for a season 6 and with the impressive ratings in mind, we do think that it will get a season 7. Beyond that, though, it is going to be up to network executives and other people involved if they feel like there is more story to tell.
