Gotham season 5 episode 3 looks to be Penguin-centric

Gotham

It looks as though Gotham season 5 episode 3 is going to give you a lot of Oswald Cobblepot — and we personally love that!

In a new post on Twitter, writer Tze Chun made it clear that the title for the third episode is “Penguin, Our Hero” — which we don’t think is just some sort of cruel trick / attempt at misdirection. Why would you hype up a Penguin episode if there is no Penguin in the episode?

The most interesting part of this title, at least from our personal vantage point, is the idea of calling Penguin a “hero” when it’s pretty clear that he is anything but a hero. This is a guy with a very-checkered history of doing bad things and wanting to rule over all of Gotham as the crime lord to end all crime lords.

Yet, remember that there are so many different ways to be a hero — and it doesn’t always mean fighting for a cause everyone believes in. It’s certainly possible that the people calling Oswald a hero are people who are terrible in their own right and he’s just done something that is great for their evil cause. This just goes well in line with something that Robin Lord Taylor said earlier this year to CarterMatt, where revealed that Penguin isn’t out to destroy the city. He wants it still standing strong, since he wants to be in charge of it. If Gotham isn’t standing, what does he have? There are ways to imagine this character as a hero to some people … even if he’s a rather unusual champion to get behind.
