The Flash season 5 casts America’s Got Talent’s Troy James as Rag Doll

Troy James

Troy James just had a run on America’s Got Talent as a super-creepy ventriloquist — who knew that an equally-creepy gig would await him in the world outside the show?

According to a report from TVInsider, James has been officially cast now as the villain Rag Doll for at least one season 5 episode of The Flash. In the comics, this is a character who possesses the ability to twist and contort his body in all sorts of shocking ways, and it was clear from the start that producers were looking for a contortionist for the role so that they didn’t have to CGI all sorts of strange body-twisting into the part. James fits the bill, given that he can do some super-shocking stuff. (If you haven’t seen his work, check out his audition for the series below.) Given that he was technically eliminated from the series already, this marks a chance for him to do some other things. In that sense, this is clearly turning a negative into a positive.

This is not James’ first appearance on a major television show, as he has appeared on such series as Shadowhunters and Channel Zero in the past. The reality here is that when you have an ability like the one that he has, there are always going to be ways for you to get out there and find unique roles. The problem is mostly just finding shows that need a contortionist — it’s not the sort of thing that you tend to see on a fairly regular basis.

New episodes of The Flash will start airing on The CW this October. Meanwhile, America’s Got Talent will continue airing its live shows Tuesday night on NBC.
