Timeless movie details, filming dates, and more revealed by show writers
In a new series of posts on Twitter, the show’s official writers room confirmed that NBC had given a green light to all of the different stories that you are going to see over the course of the two-hour event. They also confirmed that series veterans Lauren Greer and Arika Lisanne Mittman will be writing the two episodes. Meanwhile, John Showalter will direct both installments. Production is currently slated to begin for these episodes in October, which means that there’s going to be a fairly-quick turnaround between them being filmed and them actually coming on the air.

The purpose of these two episodes is simple — to tie up most of the stories that were left open at the end of the last season of Timeless after the cancellation, whether it be trying to save Rufus or showing us where Lucy and Wyatt are romantically. Is it possible that the writers could leave something open for a possible third season down the line? Absolutely it is, but since there is no way of knowing if that will happen, the primary goal here seems to be making sure that there are enough loose ends tied up so that everyone is happy. It’s always possible to introduce something new down the road.
The biggest thing that we feel right now is gratitude that all of the Clockblockers were able to make these two episodes happen. While it may not be a substitute for a full-fledged season 3, it’s so much better than the story leaving off with that major cliffhanger we got this past spring. It’s incredibly difficult to have a show canceled on such a massive cliffhanger – just ask all of us who are still salty about the cancellation of Hannibal and that cliffhanger!
Let’s just keep getting the word out and hope that there is a ratings miracle this holiday season. That’s the thing that can really change the show’s fate around if anything can.
