The Last Ship season 5 trailer: A cyber attack, fire, and war

Last Ship season 5 episode 1

TNT has just unveiled the latest The Last Ship season 5 trailer (which you can check out below), and this one gives us a fairly good sense of what’s ahead for us.

So what’s our biggest takeaway here? Mostly, that we’re in for an especially violent batch of episodes to close off the series. That isn’t much of a surprise given all of the teases in there about war being set to break out on a grand scale.

What seems to be the biggest point of curiosity is how everything begins, and a lot of it may have to do with misinformation stemming from a cyber-attack. If this turns out to be the case, it’s really reflective of what is going on in the world these days. We do now live in an era where the slightest bit of misinformation can dramatically change the outlook of the world, and destroy trust in a way that makes it impossible to get it back. It’s something that is certainly relevant to everything that is going on in the real world and the show seems to be both reflecting that and also magnifying it.

While we are seeing a lot of action both aboard the Nathan James and beyond, be aware of the fact that there could also be diplomacy here. After all, this is a show that does like to remind you that not all conclusions need to be reached by acts of war. There is another way of doing things and we hope that peace can prevail and there are many characters who end up still standing at the end of the series. We want this to be a show that represents hope at the end of the day, even though we watch by and large to see the action and the drama along the way.
