If Jessica Jones season 4 happens, it will have new showrunner
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Melissa Rosenberg will be leaving Netflix following season 3 with a new, eight-figure deal over at Warner Bros. TV, making this a rare situation in which a traditional TV studio outbid Netflix for a production pact. As of late, we have seen such prolific talent as Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, and Kenya Barris all leave network / cable television due to enormous contracts at the streaming service. The aforementioned site notes that Netflix did try to make an offer, but that Rosenberg was also interested in moving on to other projects.
Here is just some of what the showrunner had to say in a statement:
“All of my attention remains with the extraordinary cast, writers and production team of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, until the completion of season three … It continues to be a career highlight working with my partners at Marvel Television and Netflix. We’re extraordinarily grateful to the viewers who have supported us every step of the way on Jessica’s journey, which is so beautifully realized by Krysten Ritter and the amazing cast including Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville and Carrie-Anne Moss. We have so many talented storytellers in every area of this show, who I’m honored to call friends and collaborators. As I look ahead after this season, I’m thrilled that I will be able to explore new projects with the talented team at Warner Bros. Television and push myself in new challenging creative directions.”
Do we think that there will be a Jessica Jones season 4 without the woman responsible for running things behind the scenes? It seems fairly likely because of the show’s success; yet, we don’t necessarily think that this is a series meant to have a super-long run either.
