Outlander notes: Sam Heughan, Diana Gabaldon, and a costume exhibition

Outlander

There are a few different stories to get to in this edition of our CarterMatt Outlander notes, but let’s start by voicing some frustrations.

Why isn’t series author Diana Gabaldon at New York Comic-Con? Given that she is the sole reason why the show exists, we feel like it should be some unwritten rule that if you’re doing a major convention, she needs to be invited. Plus, she knows the characters and the story better than anyone can, even if the TV series doesn’t include every little detail from the book.

The news that is the most surprising when it comes to Diana’s admission at the NYCC panel this year is that she wasn’t invited — something that was confirmed by her in a post on Twitter. Given that this is a fairly-small panel of just six people, this somehow feels even more egregious. We’re sure it will be fun for people in attendance, but why not add one more super-important person to the roster? How can that hurt?

Sam Heughan updates

There are a few different things worth noting when it comes to Sam, starting with the simple fact that The Spy Who Dumped Me is now in UK cinemas! There’s also a new video interview that you can watch below.

Meanwhile, Sam seems to be officially on his way to South Africa after getting some stuff with his passport / visa officially resolved. He’s been training and preparing for his role in Bloodshot for quite a while now and we anticipate that this is going to be a very different role for him than what he’s done before.

A new costume exhibition

If you love the Emmy-nominated costumes from Terry Dresbach and the rest of the team, there’s a way to check them out if you’re in Los Angeles! From now until early October, the FIDM Museum is going to be showcasing many of them as a part of an exhibition that they put on for many Emmy nominees in the costume design world. If you’re in the LA area we strongly suggest checking it out. You can find out more information over here.
