Criminal Minds season 14: AJ Cook, Aisha Tyler, and Adam Rodriguez directing

Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds season 14 is officially going to be featuring more cast members behind the camera as director than ever before and as a long time film director ourselves, that’s something we can really appreciate.

We’ve already discussed that both Joe Mantegna and Matthew Gray Gubler would be returning to the director’s seat for another episode each this up coming season, and recently, executive producer Harry Bring also noted that AJ Cook will be helming her first-ever episode of the series.

Now, a report from TVLine reveals that both Aisha Tyler and Adam Rodriguez are also each going to be back directing an episode each this season. What that means is that out of the fifteen episodes that are constituting this season, a good third of them are being directed by the cast. Heck, the majority of the cast other than Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia), and Daniel Henney (Matt Simmons) are going behind the camera at some point. It shows even more how this season is more collaborative than almost any other, with actors working alongside the production in order to make sure that the episodes are top-notch and fantastically-done. Directing yourself is no easy task, but this cast knows the show so intimately that we feel confident they will bring us some solid material.

New episodes of Criminal Minds kick off this October, and as we recently reported, the CBS show is visiting some particularly-creepy locales this time around. The idea for this show is to somehow find a way so that it can keep reinventing itself. That’s not always a particularly easy thing to do given that there are so many different things that it has to do and so many risks that the series needs to take it has been on the air for so many seasons. Yet, in one way or another, they always find a way to figure things out whether it’s new UnSubs or a longer story arc like they had with Reid in prison.

Now, if only we knew if this was the final season or not … we’re hoping there will be at least one more beyond it, but it’s too early to tell. Ratings will likely be the biggest factor, so we will have to see how the new season goes.
