TNT has just unveiled a new poster for The Last Ship season 5, and it does a good job of working to keep things simple … and deadly.
The poster below (which comes via TVLine) gives you a chance to see what the network is describing as the “final fight” with Eric Dane’s character of Tom Chandler at the center of it. The use of the color red is a pretty clear homage to the events of the past few seasons of the show, and the simplistic nature of what you’re seeing here is a good reminder that in building the stakes, the show is scaling things down and focusing on what matters the most: The people. This series has long been Chandler’s story, but this character will be tested this season in ways that we have not seen before. Basically, the entire world could be on the brink of war thanks to everything from misinformation to fear. This is a season that could feel in some ways timely, and also could serve as a reminder that just when you think everything is starting to get better, things still go to hell in a hand-basket.
In the premiere episode, you’re going to have a chance to see Chandler, and the Nathan James in a more stable place. There’s going to be a time jump, and through that, there should be some fun developments for all of these characters. Despite the final-season poster appearing to be decidedly ominous, we do still think that there are going to be at least a few moments of hope sprinkled here and there throughout the episode. Let’s just hope there’s enough to make us feel like some of these characters’ futures will be okay.
