The Good Doctor star Freddie Highmore signs development deal with Sony
Now, Highmore has also signed a new, two-year development deal over at ABC where he will produce projects alongside the studio Sony Pictures and his own Alfresco Pictures. He will help to develop scripted projects through broadcast, cable, and streaming services alongside international co-productions — something that Sony has been involved with for a while.
In a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter), Jeff Frost, Chris Parnell and Jason Clodfelter, president and co-presidents of Sony Pictures Television, had the following to say:
“Freddie is an outstanding actor and we are incredibly proud of his work on The Good Doctor … We recognize his passion, creativity and are thrilled to expand our relationship with him and his production company Alfresco Pictures.”
Highmore at this point is currently in the process of filming the second season of The Good Doctor, but one of the best things about it is mostly that it runs only 18 episodes a season. That does give him an opportunity to continue to do other things during the off months and allows him to continue to be creatively satisfied. All of this is ultimately very important to an actor who wants to stay engaged, and we certainly imagine that Highmore is the sort of performer who likes to have many different irons in the fire. That is certainly something that we’ve seen from his the past few years. We don’t expect any huge news right away from his production company, but we certainly do think it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled for updates in the months ahead.
