NCIS season 16: Joe Spano returning as Tobias Fornell for episode 3
In a new post on Twitter, Spano confirmed that he will be coming back for the third episode of the season, one that recently wrapped filming. Judging from what he had to say there’s a lot of him alongside Mark Harmon in the episode, which should be super-appealing to those out there who love to see these characters working together. Given that Fornell is now in the private-investigator business, it does feel like there is potential to bring this character in for a lot of different things depending on what the case is and if it’s something that requires the NCIS to bring in someone who doesn’t have to follow the same exact protocol.

Also, Fornell has something going for him that is incredibly important to Gibbs: Trust. No matter what happens out there on the mission, Gibbs knows that he can count on Tobias to do what’s right and also follow the orders that are given to him. We hope for a good mystery here, but also some personal scenes given that these two have some of the best ones of the show’s run. There aren’t a lot of people who we can consider to be strictly one of Gibbs’ friends on the show, but Fornell absolutely fits that bill.
Given that Spano mentioned that this was just his “first’ episode of the season, let’s just hope that this is setting us up for a few more episodes coming up down the road.
