Animal Kingdom season 3 finale video: The Smurf, J standoff begins
In this new sneak peek, you can see Smurf “break the news” to J about the recent death of Morgan, which he of course is responsible for in a way that is entirely messed-up. She relayed some of the information about Morgan’s death, but then also carefully recounted at the same time all of the various things that Morgan did. All of this on Smurf’s part is done with a very specific intention in mind: Trying to get J to realize just how much she knows about not only Morgan, but about him. It’s a warning that he is flying too close to the sun and that it didn’t take all that long after her release from prison to start to really understand that he is the person who is really running the show and pulling the strings.

By the end of this episode, we do expect either some resolution between Smurf and J, or for everything to be blown more wide open so that moving into season 4, these are two characters fully at war with each other. Smurf, for many years, prioritized greed with her family — she effectively led them all down this dark path. It really shouldn’t be all that much of a shock to her that one of the boys ends up being interested in trying to replace her and it could happen sooner rather than later, depending on what transpires in this episode. It’s entitled “The Hyenas” for a reason — people like J are on the prowl, looking to prey upon who they perceive as weak. We wouldn’t use that word to describe Smurf, but over time, it’s possible that this is what she becomes.
