Animal Kingdom season 3 finale: Could another character die?

Going into the start of Animal Kingdom season 3, we lost a major character in Scott Speedman’s Baz. With that in mind, we don’t think that it is altogether unreasonable to ask the following question: Are we also going to lose another major character?

Departures have been a major theme of Animal Kingdom almost from start to finish, starting of course with Baz but leading into a couple other notable exits. While Molly Gordon’s character of Nicky isn’t dead, it does appear as though she’s gone from the show — pending of course some surprise down the road. Meanwhile, Denis Leary’s character of Billy has also taken off, though his partner-in-crime Frankie (if that is her real name) is still around.

Smurf – She’s certainly the character who could be targeted the most, largely because it feels like just about every other character on the show at this point has some sort of motive in order to take her out. The thing about Smurf, though, is that she has already shown herself to be quite the metaphorical cockroach. It doesn’t seem as though anyone can kill her, even if there are certainly plenty of people motivated enough to give it a shot.

Pope – He’s an emotional guy and because of that, it’s not hard to see him get himself in a situation where he’s ultimately in too deep and he completely screws himself over. His suspicion of Smurf over Baz’s death doesn’t bode well for him.

Craig – While Smurf isn’t likely to take him down, we do think that Frankie’s intentions towards him are certainly suspicion in her own right. Her introduction just makes her far too hard a character to trust.

J – This would be the biggest surprise of all, mostly because we think that this is largely his story about his rise to power.
