Arrow season 7 pushing the limits of censorship more than ever
Speaking in a new interview with Newsarama, show stunt coordinator (and premiere director) James Bamford made it very clear that there were some conversations that needed to be had with the censors about some of the content that is in the very first episode:
“In the premiere you will find some elements with the Season 1 feel, but you will find other elements that is new, uncharted territory … [Showrunner] Beth [Schwartz] and I had a phone call with BNSP, which is our censors… a very lengthy phone call about a particular scene that we never had before. So we are really trying to push the limits on the show in the gritty factor. We are trying to go as far as you can go within the confines of our network and what is expected of us and what we can and can’t do. We are not on Netflix so we will never be able to X, Y, and Z, but we are d**n sure going to try.”
Much of this pushing the envelope may come with some of the territory of having a new showrunner and a new twist in the story that comes via Oliver being in prison. Beyond just that, though, it’s probably a function of wanting to do something that the series has never done before. That’s harder to do the longer that you get into filming, but all of this coincides rather well with some of what Stephen Amell said recently on the subject, as he noted that this season is one of the most taxing ones physically that he has been a part of — and we’re only just a handful of episodes into the run.
Arrow season 7 premieres this October, but hopefully there will be a few more teases as to what lies ahead before then. To date, this is by far the most secretive we’ve seen the show be about upcoming episodes.
