Grey’s Anatomy executive producer sees no end in sight entering season 15

Grey's Anatomy season 14

Grey’s Anatomy season 15 is coming up on ABC this fall, but don’t expect the series to be thinking about an endgame anytime soon.

Ultimately, there are so many different reasons for the series to keep going. For starters, it continues to be one of ABC’s highest-rated and most-watched series, and it has managed to continually find new viewers for itself thanks to people finding and watching it on Netflix. Beyond just this, Ellen Pompeo has a contract that takes her to the end of season 16. There’s no guarantee that there will be a season 16 at present but in a lot of ways, it really does feel like a foregone conclusion.

We also know that for the folks behind the scenes, there is still excitement towards making it. Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Debbie Allen (who is an executive producer in an addition to a performer / director on the series) had the following to say:

“It looks like it can keep going … Ellen Pompeo is more beautiful than ever. We have so many fans all over the world. I went to Cuba and was in a club and someone recognized me as Catherine Avery, and I was like wow, I’m not even that much in the show.”

This is the real mark of a great show, one where you can be recognized all over the world. This is how you know you are making a great impact and it can be fuel to keep going.

Our feeling when it comes to Grey’s Anatomy and its future is ultimately rather simple: It’s going to be around however long the cast and crew want to keep doing it. With its ratings performance it’s hard to fathom a reason for it to get canceled. Our thinking is that the show has at least a few more years creatively in the tank, provided that there isn’t some sudden change behind the scenes.
