Should NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 be moved an hour earlier?

NCIS: Los Angeles

For this particular NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 story, we are thinking mostly about timeslots — and whether or not there’s a better one out there.

This past year, the CBS series drew some of the lowest ratings that it’s seen so far during its run. Yet, there’s also a couple of good reasons for it. First and foremost, the schedule was thrown all over the place for a number of different reasons, whether it be the NFL or other sporting events delaying it. When the show is starting 15-20 minutes later than its typical start time, inevitably there are going to be some people out there who start to lose interest.

Beyond just this, the second problem comes via the lead-ins. Last year, NCIS: Los Angeles premiered after Wisdom of the Crowd and then also Instinct. While these two shows (especially the latter) had their fans, they also struggled to pull in big ratings, especially in the demo. This basically ensured that there weren’t as many viewers leading into NCIS: Los Angeles as the series has had for almost the entirety of its run. It’s more out on an island and it has to fend for itself.

Moving into season 10, the same exact thing seems to be happening — it’s in the same timeslot and, to go along with that, it’s airing after another new show in God Friended Me. While this series does have some potential, it’s a total unknown. It’s hard to ultimately know just how it’s going to fare and with that in mind, it would be totally foolish to get our hopes up for anything. God Friended Me is getting the lucrative lead-in from 60 Minutes / NFL football, and while that could help the show at first, it won’t quite matter if viewers don’t respond to the series. Personally, we think that it’s better to move NCIS: Los Angeles back to this 8:00 p.m. Eastern spot and use it to launch God Friended Me. With this, you’re at least guaranteeing yourself some better ratings for CBS without putting as much pressure on a totally-new series.
