Our suggested Outlander season 4 schedule: Is this what Starz will do?
At the moment, what we can say with a little bit of confidence is this: Starz is at least going to have seven episodes, and maybe more, air in 2018. We can take a more comprehensive look at the possible schedule now with the premiere date in mind, and the first major decision point is going to come on December 23. Will Starz really want to air a new episode then? It’s two days before Christmas and with that, there is a reasonably good chance that viewers are going to be traveling or are off doing a wide array of other things. Yet, at the same time this particular network may not care all that much, given that they don’t need live+same-day ratings to have their show be a hit. They care more about subscriptions. (If Starz really cared about breaking ratings records, they probably wouldn’t release most of their episodes early.)

Here’s the kicker, thought: If Starz takes December 23 and 30 off, it would mean that the network would conclude season 4 of Outlander on Sunday, February 10 — which is up against the Grammys. This would also mean that the February 3 episode is airing right against the Super Bowl. Starz effectively has to ask themselves what’s more important when it comes to generating publicity for the series: Keeping Outlander away from the holidays, or keeping the show away from the Super Bowl and one of the biggest awards shows out there?
If we had to make a prediction right now (obviously not confirmed), it would be for Outlander to air over the holidays and then conclude in late January. It gives us more of the show faster and, beyond that, it spares it from the most horrible competition that it could ever ask for.
