Jerry Seinfeld doesn’t regret ending Seinfeld, despite HUGE offer
As discussed in a new interview with the New York Times Magazine, Seinfeld was offered an incredible $5 million an episode in order to continue making the show on NBC for at least one more season. So does he regret saying no and moving on? As it turns out, not so much:
No. It was the perfect moment, and the proof that it was the right moment is the number of questions you’re still asking me about it. The most important word in art is “proportion.” How much? How long is this joke going to be? How many words? How many minutes? And getting that right is what makes it art or what makes it mediocre.
We do have a feeling that, even in 2018, Seinfeld could be offered an enormous amount of cash in order to come back and do this show again. We’re just not sure that he would do that even still, given the enormous sums of money that he’s getting from everything from residuals to also Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee to some of his standup work. There’s no real reason for him to do anything different, mostly because he’s got a pretty incredible life and career right now as it is.
Yet, the offers aren’t going away, and there is certainly time for Seinfeld to change his mind … if he ever wants to, anyway.
