USA betting big on Bourne Identity series Treadstone

The Sinner season 2

USA Network apparently has some big plans for their programming in the future — we don’t think that you do a Bourne Identity inspired series otherwise.

The network has officially ordered to series Treadstone, a project from former Heroes creator Tim Kring that is going to follow sleeper agents all around the world as the conduct a number of dangerous missions. There are no plans, at least at present, for Matt Damon (who played Jason Bourne in many of the movies) to be involved. The specific connections between Treadstone and some of the Bourne movies also remains unclear at this time.

Nonetheless, this series is clearly a bold move by the network to get another action thriller on board, and this does help to explain a little bit more as to why they made the decision that they did to cancel Shooter earlier this week. While we would argue that these two shows could have complimented each other rather nicely, this should work as a rather-nice replacement for Shooter on the air — of course, provided that the cast is perfect and the story seems like a nice representation of the Bourne world.

It is abundantly clear at the moment that the folks at USA have the utmost faith in the project, given that otherwise, they would not have thrown out this series order. This is a network who has some very-clear plans of thinking ahead and trying to ensure that their roster is shored up — they don’t clearly want to just do clear remakes, but we are in an era where low-risk properties are priorities for many executives. This series already has a built-in following and that is going to make things easier when it comes to getting a foot in the door for many viewers.
