Crime Dynamic Duos: Bull (Bull / Marissa) vs. MacGyver (Mac / Jack)

Welcome to CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos 2018! This is the third year in which we’re doing this tournament, which is a way to honor some of the best crime-solvers in all of TV. This tournament runs throughout the month of August, and over the course of it we describe what makes certain pairs the perfect crime-fighting duo while also allowing you to share some of your thoughts on the competition! Each article is accompanied with a description and a poll; the winning duo will advance to the next round leading up to the winner being announced on September 1!

What are the rules of the tournament? Basically, all eligible shows have to still be in the midst of their run on TV as of August 1, and at least one character involved needs to be involved in solving crimes in some capacity. They can be a cop, a private investigator, a federal agent, a lawyer or a high-ranking officer. What matters is that they put plenty of bad people away.

Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Voting for Round 2 is open until Sunday, August 19 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time; round 3 will kick off the following day. The image at the top of the article should explain everything.

Today, we’ve got a showdown featuring two shows in Bull and MacGyver that is definitely going to be fun! For starters, both shows are named after their main character, and are really successful because of the relationships that exist within.

Bull and Marissa, Bull (#3 seed) – The round 1 victory for Michael Weatherly and Geneva Carr’s characters was a pretty commanding one, with the duo garnering 75% of the total vote. They are entering this second battle with a little bit of positive momentum on their side, but they also are facing a formidable duo this time around. Yet, what makes Bull and Marissa so effective is how they are always able to conquer any challenge, even if it means contending against powerful judges or attorneys. They are exceptional at their jobs, but beyond that they have a great friendship and relationship outisde of the job (or however much that exists for Bull). That is going to be especially important moving into season 3, as Bull recovers from his heart attack.

Mac and Jack, MacGyver (#2 seed) – The victory for Mac and Jack in round 1 was even more lopsided, with the air pair getting a whopping 86% of the vote against Bishop and Torres. They’re one of TV’s most entertaining duos, mostly because they really combine that ability to have a lot of fun with also kicking butt and taking names. Moving into season 3, we certainly imagine that this is going to be at the forefront of their relationship. Without the humor and the friendship that exists between these two guys, we have a feeling that their missions would be infinitely more difficult for them to tackle.
