MasterChef season 9 episode 14 preview: Back out in the field

MasterChef season 9

Tonight, MasterChef introduced you to the top 10 following an intense challenge all about halibut. Losing home cooks at this point is tough, but the show must go. Losing Chelsea and SJ was a tough pill to swallow, especially the latter given that he has such a big heart and he seemed to have a lot of potential. (He does certainly have a great opportunity with Gordon Ramsay after he gets more of an education.) Chelsea was, at least for us, a little more of an under-the-radar contender.

So where does the series go from here? Well, based on the preview that we saw tonight, we’re heading out into the field again for another team challenge. These have been pretty woven into the fabric of the series at this point and because of that, there’s a sort of pattern that we’ve come to expect. The contestants are cooking for a big group of people (this time the men and women of the military) and with that, they have to figure out how to handle the pressure and also learn to think almost constantly on their toes.

Admittedly, these are some of our lead-favorite parts of the competition, mostly because we feel like we’ve seen these challenges time and time again and they don’t offer up a lot of creativity. Yet, we understand why they are there. Any great chef is able to cook for enormous groups of people when the situation calls for it — they may not want to do it, but they have to be prepared to take that on just in case.

Want some more excitement? Then know this — there are going to be two hours of programming next week, which the series needs in order to wrap up before the start of the fall.
