Making It season 2 renewal: Our case for more Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman
Out of all of the summer shows out there, we feel pretty confident that this is one that deserves a second season. We’d also echo that when looking at the season 1 ratings to date. Through three episodes, the show is averaging a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and also more than 4.3 million viewers. While those aren’t smash-hit numbers, they’re very good for the summer. They are probably helped somewhat by airing after America’s Got Talent but we do think that there’s enough appeal here for viewers to potentially be on board watching this show even if it was airing at a different timeslot. It also feels like the sort of reality competition show that would do really well on DVRs and streaming after the fact, mostly because there’s so little emphasis on winning that we don’t think there’s an absolute sense of urgency that comes with watching it live. People can see it at their own pace.
We think that ratings-wise, ordering another season shouldn’t be too hard a decision. Also, the vast majority of the show takes place within a single location and we don’t imagine that it’s insanely expensive to make because of it. Locking down Poehler and Offerman may be a challenge just because of their schedules; it really just feels like a show you could make again, provided they want to keep doing it, whenever their schedules align.
One thing we do know is this: No matter how this season ends, we’re not going to be satisfied with the total number of episodes this summer.
