Doctor Who season 11 premiere date coming before October’s end

Doctor Who season 11

We certainly understand the desire for a Doctor Who season 11 premiere date sooner rather than later. However, it doesn’t appear as though the folks over at the BBC are eager to hand one out. That isn’t a shock, mostly because they are notoriously slow with their premiere-date announcements.

Yet, we’re at least starting to get some approximate information as to when the series is going to be back. Speaking per the Radio Times, a rep for the BBC makes it clear that the ten episodes starring Jodie Whittaker will be on the air by the end of October — though that should have been a given. Basically, if the BBC wants to air the entire season before the Christmas Special, they have to premiere at some point either before or during October. You do it any later and you have to split up the season — that is not ideal when you are talking about a season of only ten episodes.

We do think that the upcoming season will have a great deal of publicity around it no matter when it premieres, mostly because the BBC likely is aware at this point of how important this season is to their success. Doctor Who is basically a staple of their programming and with there being a new Doctor this year in Whittaker and a new showrunner in Chris Chibnall, you want to ensure that you get this right. As a result of that, you do have to figure out a way in which to position the series where it doesn’t have all that much competition. Beyond that, you also just want to have enough time to promote it so that even casual viewers remember to check it out.

The only bummer with waiting this long is that it gives leakers more time to try and ruin it. We’ve already seen examples of them trying to do this.
