Call the Midwife season 8: New spotlight on Dr. Turner

Call the Midwife season 8

Call the Midwife season 8, alas, is still many months away from airing. It will have a Christmas Special first, and then pick things up with another batch of episodes starting early next year. There are many different notable characters who help make the story as exciting as it is, but of course, Dr. Turner is at the center of many.

Without Dr. Turner, it is hard to really imagine the series being what it is or some of the midwives being able to fully do their job. He’s smart, personable, and skilled — though he is also a man of great responsibility and he does at times feel the weight of it. That’s something that we imagine is going to continue happening moving into season 8, as there are more problems swirling around Nonnatus House and Dr. Turner has to figure out a way to keep adapting with all of the changes in medicine.

One of the other stories that we would like to see picked up and addressed even further as we move into Call the Midwife season 8 is getting a chance to learn a little bit more about the rise in hospitals and what that means for some of the midwives on the show. Can there be an ecosystem where both parties exist in equal measure? Midwives were more popular many years ago largely because pateints didn’t have too much of an option otherwise. However, we are in a different place now and looking at a very different world now. This is a story that has been addressed on the series long before now, but we are starting to get to a point where it can take center stage so much more than it did in the past.

Of course, beyond his work, we just want to see Dr. Turner and Shelagh continue to have a happy life.
