There’s been buzz for a little while about a Kelly Frye return to Criminal Minds, largely due to teases about a Matt Simmons storyline that would greater explore his status as a family man.
Now, the news is official — in a post on Twitter, Frye made it clear that she will be back soon as Kristy. Given where Criminal Minds is in season 14 filming at the moment, be prepared to Kristy back in one of the first few episodes of the new season. It will be after the 300th episode kicking things off in October, but not too far after that.
While Frye made a number of appearances on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders over the course of its run, her first appearance on the flagship series came last year in the episode “Ex Parte,” which proved to be a fantastic story largely around Kristy finding herself in a life-threatening situation and having to do whatever she could to help both her and also her colleagues. It was an episode that challenged both her and her husband as their relationship and communication was put to the test. If this new episode ends up being anything quite like this, we have a feeling that we’re going to be in for a treat.
(If you missed it, Daniel Henney recently talked about both “Ex Parte” and many other things in a new show-related video, which you can talk about over at the link here.)
We wouldn’t mind if, in general, Criminal Minds stressed friends and loved ones of the BAU through most of the upcoming season and gave all of the cast members at least a couple of episodes to shine. We think that Hawaii Five-0 shifted to more of a personal focus over the past couple of years and it’s helped it tremendously. Criminal Minds could do more of that without abandoning some of what makes it the super-intense show that it is.
