Outlander convention news: Richard Rankin, more on board for New Jersey

Sophie Skelton
It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve offered any Outlander convention updates, but given that there is a big one coming this month, it feels like this is the perfect time for one!

The convention that we are speaking on here is the official one happening in New Jersey from August 17-19, one that you can get tickets to over at the link here. While there has been some sad cancellation news as of late between Sam Heughan and Tobias Menzies (who are all working on separate projects), the convention has announced many new performers. Take a look below for additional details:

We are super excited to announce seven new guests attending the OUTLANDER convention in New Jersey! RICHARD RANKIN (“Roger Wakefield”) appearing Sunday; GARY LEWIS (“Colum MacKenzie”), appearing Saturday and Sunday and performing at the Saturday Night Concert; LOTTE VERBEEK (“Geillis Duncan”), appearing Friday and Saturday; LAUREN LYLE (“Marsali”), appearing Friday and Saturday; SCOTT KYLE (“Ross”), appearing Friday and Saturday; musician GILLEBRIDE MacMILLAN (“Gwyllyn the Bard”), appearing Friday and Saturday and performing at the Saturday Night Concert; and ANDREW GOWER (“Prince Charles Edward Stuart”), appearing Saturday and Sunday. They will all be joining us at the event — on stage, signing autographs and taking photo ops, and we are looking forward to providing a wonderful, fun-filled weekend of live entertainment with our new guests!

As of right now, the roster of guests also includes Cesar Domboy (Fergus), Caitriona Balfe (Claire), Graham McTavish (Dougal), Stephen Walters (Angus), and David Berry (Lord John Grey). It’s a pretty great array of people from all eras and seasons of the show, including some that you don’t get an opportunity to see at every convention. (Plus, any chance to see Rankin should be worthy of a celebration.)

We always hear disappointment from people when certain actors cancel, but the reality is mostly that they sign up with every intention of being there. Yet, schedules for other projects often change and because of the contracts that they sign with them, they often find themselves between a rock in a hard place. Their careers often have to come first, but even with some of these cancellations we feel like this will be a good time for those who attend. The Las Vegas convention earlier this summer received some rave reviews even with Heughan being unable to make the trip.
