Take Two season 2 renewal campaign kicks off: How to help ABC series

Take Two

While we know that we’re not super-close to the season finale just yet, is it ever too early to start campaigning for a Take Two season 2? We don’t think so!

As a matter of fact, now actually seems like the perfect time in which to get on board the push for another season for many different reasons, starting of course with the fact that there’s enough episodes left this season to make a real ratings impact. One of the biggest issues with many “save our show” campaigns out there is that they often start so late that they give themselves a huge uphill battle. Networks actually want to see signs of growth in the live ratings to have confidence to pick a series up, and not just buzz after the fact since they can’t quantify that.

With that in mind, the best thing that anyone can do right now (especially if they have a Nielsen box) is watch new episodes of Take Two live and try and tweet about it as much as humanly possible. Build some buzz around the show! While we know that it’s summer and it’s a less-than-ideal time to watch TV live, it can go a long way towards helping to get the show back.

Beyond just that, recommend the show to many of your friends! While it is a show set in 2018, the premise and the tone of Take Two is very reminiscent of a Bones, Castle, or many other semi-comedic procedurals from the past ten or fifteen years. If you knew someone who loved those shows, there’s a good chance they will enjoy this one too. Even if they can just watch via DVR, those ratings still matter.

The good news for Take Two ratings-wise is that the series has been consistent almost the entire season. People who caught the show for the first episode have mostly stuck around, which is great given that the story has gotten increasingly better as it goes along. There is clearly an audience here — we would like to see it get closer to a 0.6 or 0.7 rating, though; if it got there, we’d feel a lot more confident about its odds of coming back. As it is, this is clearly a series on the fence. One thing that it does have going for it is that ABC has a substantial ownership of the show through its studio; therefore, it will have an incentive to want to keep it as opposed to it being produced elsewhere.

The next new episode, “All About Ava,” airs on ABC Thursday night.
