MasterChef season 9 episode 12 video: Ready for a new Mystery Box?
The video that CarterMatt has for you below is hardly the most revealing one that we’ve seen so far for the series, but it does give you a sense as to one (liquid) ingredient that the chefs are going to have to cook with in some shape or form. Following this, there’s going to be another Elimination Challenge and the series is drifting back into the familiar format that you’ve come to expect from some of these episodes.
What we like the most about where the show is right now is that we’ve actually got a fairly good idea who most of the come cooks are. For the first seven or eight episodes of the season, the majority of the people you lose are not people you know all that much about because, to be frank, there are so many other people whose stories need more time in order to be developed. Before the editors really dive into any of these episodes, they are aware of the contestants who make it far and those are the stories they want to share with the viewers to get them invested. After all, they are really the backbone of your entire season!
The benefit to this editing strategy is that going into the top 13, we know most of the remaining home cooks rather well and some of them are starting to become a little more comfortable in the kitchen. We still think that the mentor twist is becoming a little bit half-baked, mostly because it doesn’t feel like there’s anything that is all that different between this season and how the show was done in the past … though we also do understand on some level why the series wanted to have a new hook in this sort of vein.
