Law & Order: SVU season 20 spoilers: Mark Tallman set to recur
According to a new report coming in via Deadline, Tallman is set to recur on the NBC series moving forward in the role of Gavin Riley, the chief of detectives and a man who wants to really be so much more than that. He has aspirations of one day becoming governor and because of that, he isn’t afraid to get in people’s way and step on a few toes to get what he wants. He’s going to likely be the sort of guy who will do anything to get his name out there and we are hoping that this kind of ambition will cause a little drama.
While it is purely speculative on our part, doesn’t Riley sound like the sort of guy who will take ownership for solving a case even when he’s not responsible for it? Or, don’t you think that he is going to be the sort of man who tries to overstep his jurisdiction? What we like about having these sort of characters on board is that they serve as internal challengers for Benson and the entire SVU squad. It is of course necessary that you have terrible people in every episode that need to be brought to justice, but then you have characters like Gavin who are a bit more in a moral gray area. They may want justice, but at the same time they also want to get things done in their own way to serve their own self-interest.
Season 20 of Law & Order: SVU is set to premiere on NBC on Thursday, September 27! In the wake of what’s going on in the world today, be prepared to see a season that is more topical, relevant, and powerful than ever.
