Crime Dynamic Duos: MacGyver (Mac / Jack) vs. NCIS (Bishop / Torres)

Welcome to CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos 2018! This is the third year in which we’re doing this tournament, which is a way to honor some of the best crime-solvers in all of TV. This tournament runs throughout the month of August, and over the course of it we describe what makes certain pairs the perfect crime-fighting duo while also allowing you to share some of your thoughts on the competition! Each article is accompanied with a description and a poll; the winning duo will advance to the next round leading up to the winner being announced on September 1!

What are the rules of the tournament? Basically, all eligible shows have to still be in the midst of their run on TV as of August 1, and at least one character involved needs to be involved in solving crimes in some capacity. They can be a cop, a private investigator, a federal agent, a lawyer or a high-ranking officer. What matters is that they put plenty of bad people away.

Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Voting for Round 1 is open until Friday, August 10 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. Round 2 will begin the following day; the image at the top of the article should explain everything.

In this article, we have partnerships from two different CBS shows front and center! MacGyver and Jack from the action-packed MacGyver are facing off against Bishop and Torres from NCIS, one of the latest dynamic duos to surface on that show.

MacGyver and Jack, MacGyver (#2 seed) – One of the biggest challenge with the new version of MacGyver really from the get-go was working to see if there was a way to carve out a brand-new identity for itself that paid homage to the original, while still offering something new for this generation. Establishing the Mac / Jack relationship early is a big part of the series’ success. It’s a refreshing shift to the formula and the relationship between these two men is both compelling and also endearing. They have a great sense of humor with each other while also aware that they have a job to do. While neither one of them may be crime-fighters in the traditional sense, without them the world would be a far more terrible place.

Bishop and Torres, NCIS (#7 seed) – The writers took their time establishing the relationship between these characters but now that they have, you have one of the better push-and-pull dynamics on the show. They have the same goals, but different methods to getting there and that allows for some more conflict. Bishop is the sort of agent who will take her time analyzing how to solve a problem; Torres, meanwhile, will run in and try to solve the problem before the bad guys know what hit them. Beyond their partnership, we know that there are also some people rooting for them romantically — that was really established more over the course of this past season.
