New Riverdale spin-off could be in the works for 2019-20 season
While at TCA today promoting the upcoming third season of the series, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa made it clear that there is an idea that he is working on that could be a part of the 2019-20 TV season. Yet, he also made it clear that it is still super-early in the process of trying to make it happen and because of that, it feels a little bit too early in order to talk too much about what it could be. Beyond that, though, he did make it clear that the new show is going to be very different from Riverdale itself.
For those wondering as to whether or not Riverdale is going to be considering crossovers with Netflix’s upcoming series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, it’s fair to say that you shouldn’t count on it judging from what Aguirre-Sacasa said via TVLine:
Right now, we’re trying to make sure that the shows have their own identity and their own set of rules.
Yet, the two series are technically still within the same world, so anything is possible in theory with that in mind. We just see it being somewhat hard given that one show airs on traditional television and the other on Netflix … though Riverdale does also stream on Netflix and it has some connections there. It’s actually the popularity of the series there that has contributed a rather great deal to why it generated such a big ratings bump following the first season and moving into season 2.
We imagine that there will be some more news when it comes to the spin-off series a little bit later this year — or, at the latest, the winter TCA press tour.
