Save Shadowhunters update: Ratings talk, Harry Shum Jr. & Matthew Daddario’s video, and more
We’ve also seen a number of messages from social media via the cast and crew, with many of them preparing as though the finale is the end of the show. That is likely important both for them and also for the sake of not giving false hope. To quote executive producer Toss Slavkin, it is unlikely the series finds another home elsewhere … but who doesn’t love a good underdog story? There are still reasons to fight unless it comes out that hope has dried up entirely.
From our vantage point, there’s going to be hope all the way until the final season 3 episodes air and we get a good sense of what the ratings are. There’s an interesting example that we can give of this with Code Black over at CBS. Earlier today, the network made it clear that they are considering finding a way to bring the show back, despite them previously canceling it this spring. Why is that? The ratings ended up being stronger than they expected them to be. Live U.S. ratings remain the most important thing when it comes to saving a show, and if Shadowhunters does manage to improve its numbers in 2019 we do think that there could be a flurry of interested parties. Think about it this way — not only would you get one of TV’s most-passionate fandoms, but you would also have some solid ratings that would pay off on the business end.
Basically, convince all of your friends to get watching the show on Hulu to make sure that everyone watches the series when it returns to Freeform. Even if you don’t love the network right now, remember that there’s a larger goal in mind.
While it is true that there are other factors that went into the Shadowhunters cancellation beyond just ratings, we’re a big believer that if the numbers are really good, that helps to sort a lot of other stuff out.

Harry Shum Jr. – Matthew Daddario video
In case you haven’t seen this yet, it’s a pretty moving tribute to both these actors and the show they’ve had a chance to work on the past three and a half years. It’s been a life-changing experience and almost certainly a difficult thing for them to say goodbye to — yet, all good things do have a tendency to come to an end. We just hope, in this case, that the end isn’t for a little bit longer still, and these two have a chance to issue another goodbye down the road.
