Criminal Minds season 14 episode 4: Matthew Gray Gubler directing
Per a new post on Twitter from executive producer Harry Bring, the fourth episode of this season carries with it the title of “The Tall Man.” Gubler is directing a script from Breen Frazier, a prolific Criminal Minds writer who is the chief voice behind more than thirty episodes, including multiple finales. This is a powerful combination of writer and director, and that should give you an indication that this is an important episode of the series.
There is a part of us that wonders whether or not “The Tall Man” is a reference to the infamous Slender Man and if this episode is going to be some sort of take on that. We know that Gubler does love to take on some especially-creepy subject matter and that would not be much of a surprise. For a show like Criminal Minds, the greatest challenge is always going to be figuring out a way to bring in UnSubs who bring something different to the table and are memorable. Fourteen seasons in, there has to be a feeling of wanting to push the envelope and do a few new things that will somehow find a way to surprise people. You want them talking about the series after the fact, which hopefully they will be doing from the jump this season given that the season 14 premiere is the 300th episode. There are all sorts of reasons to think that this will be an incredible episode, and that’s something we speculate about in the video below. Criminal Minds season 14 is premiering come early October, so there is a good chance that this could be the show’s Halloween episode this year — even if it is not specifically referenced, you can do a Halloween episode just by focusing on a specific tone. There are few other CBS procedurals that are as equipped to bringing forward the fear often highlighted in this holiday quite like Criminal Minds.
