Consider this to be the American Horror Story season 8 news that we’ve wanted more than any other: Jessica Lange is returning!
Today, it was confirmed at the show’s Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour panel that Lange will be back for the sixth episode of the season, directed by Sarah Paulson, where she will play her Murder House character of Constance. This season is a crossover between the first season and season 3, otherwise known as American Horror Story: Coven.
While at the panel, Murphy noted that he has been trying to convince Lange to come back to the series for a rather long time, but has struggled to get her to say yes — yet, he still thinks that he may be able to convince her in due time if the right character comes around. She originally was a part of the series for the first four seasons before departing — after that, Lady Gaga took over the lead role for season 5 and since that time it’s becoming much more of an ensemble show with different characters taking top billing — though Paulson has always been near the top.
Of course, we’re thrilled to have Lange back, especially since so many other former favorites will be joining her including Kathy Bates and also Emma Roberts, who is going to be playing her Coven character of Madison in some capacity.
American Horror Story season 8 is subtitled Apocalypse, and it is going to premiere on FX starting next month. Just as you would expect, we will have some more news on the franchise the moment that there is more available.
