Lethal Weapon season 3: Damon Wayans describes new tone on set

Lethal Weapon season 2 promo

Lethal Weapon season 3 is going to be premiering on Fox this fall, and by all indications it’s going to be a very different season. Clayne Crawford is gone from the series, and following that Seann William Scott has been brought in. The show is still very early in production, but already there are some proclamations that the tone of the show and the feeling on-set is different — at least according to star Damon Wayans.

Speaking (per The Hollywood Reporter) while at a TCA party, the actor behind Murtaugh had the following to say:

“We’re only the first [episode] in but it’s definitely a lot lighter in tone and we’re having fun — on and off set … It’s a lot looser. Nobody is overthinking; we’re just doing and we’re having fun trying to get home.”

Wayans also said that he wishes Crawford “the best,” which is probably what he should have said last spring rather than throwing metaphorical gasoline on the fire with some of the tweets that he made about the on-set situations that led to Clayne’s dismissal. It added to what was already a fairly volatile atmosphere around the situation.

Ultimately, though, the situation now is pretty clear: Everyone is moving forward and hopefully the cast and crew will make the best version of the show they’re trying to make. If it works, it works; if it doesn’t, it gets canceled and everyone then will get a chance to move on. Come late September, none of the recent headlines on the subject of the ratings are going to matter all that much. Instead, the ratings for the series are really going to be what makes Fox decide what they want to do with the series moving forward.
