As we get closer to Madam Secretary season 5, we of course do find ourselves pondering over many different questions. One of the biggest ones at the moment is simply this: Is there a reasonably good chance at a season 6 down the road?
At the moment, one of the things that we do know here is that there’s a reasonably good chance of it happening, largely for two different reasons. For starters, we do think that CBS is very fond of the series. They own it, they have an incentive to keep it on the air a rather-long time, and because of all of that, we do think that there is a reasonably good chance that they are going to opt to bring it back on the air again for more.
Beyond this, there’s also just the expectation level that CBS has for this particular timeslot on the schedule. Let’s just put it this way: How can they have super-high hopes for a show that is airing so late on Sunday night, especially when it comes on at around 10:30 p.m. Eastern time on some nights? Madam Secretary has performed just as well, if not better, in this timeslot than Elementary. It’s with that in mind, plus the show’s penchant for big-name guest stars like Colin Powell and Hillary Clinton, that have us reasonably confident that we will see the series eventually get a season 6 down the road. We just don’t think that there will be an announcement until spring.
Also, there’s one other thing to think about here: Elizabeth potentially becoming President down the road. If this is going to be a storyline in the future, we do think it would be nice to see what she is like as the leader of the free world in addition to the campaign. It is hard to have all of that over the course of a single year.
