The Originals actress Riley Voelkel joins Roswell, New Mexico series

The Originals may not be sticking around on The CW always and forever, but the network is finding a way to use one of its stars in Riley Voelkel.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the actress (best known for playing Freya Mikaelson across the last few seasons of the show) is going to be recurring on the upcoming series Roswell, New Mexico. This is a show that already has some substantial connections to the entire Vampire Diaries universe with Carina Adly MacKenzie, who was a part of The Originals for years, on board here as the showrunner. Meanwhile, Nathan Parsons and Michael Trevino, who were a part of The Originals and The Vampire Diaries at some point during their runs, are each a part of the cast here.

So who is Voelkel playing on this new Roswell? She is Cameron, the “quick-witted partner” of Max at the Sheriff’s Department. She is one of the few people who can break down this character’s walls and also bring a realistic perspective to whatever lies before her. All signs suggest that this is going to be a very different role than Freya, and we certainly would not be surprised if she ends up being promoted to series regular for this role at some point down the line, depending of course on the direction of this show decides to take.

Roswell, New Mexico is based mostly on the book Roswell High, rather than just taking all of its cues from the original series that aired first in 1999. The main character here is Liz (Jeanine Mason), the daughter of two undocumented immigrants who returns home to Roswell and, soon after that, learns something shocking about her high-school crush … who just so happens to be the aforementioned Max. It’s a show with a lot of potential, but you will be waiting until 2019 most likely to see it.
