The Originals season 6: Why it is unlikely to happen on The CW

As we approach the series finale, now does feel like the right time to entertain the idea of The Originals season 6. Is it something that could ever come to fruition?

Alas, the short answer to that is no. While we are writing this prior to seeing the final episode on The CW, it definitely does not feel as though a revival is going to be something that is in the cards for really anyone. Why? Let’s just say that there are many different reasons for that.

First and foremost, you have to just think about the story of this series. We’ve already lived with these characters for so many years and we’ve experienced the part of their lives that we are meant to. The Vampire Diaries established so much closure so that there really isn’t a need to revisit many of these different characters. With The Originals, the same thing is likely going to happen.

Moving beyond just that, though, you’ve also got the acting interests of many of the cast members, who may be ready and also eager to start to move forward to some other projects. It does make a little bit of sense that they would be ready to tackle some new frontiers. It is possible that many of these actors would have left after season 5 even if the series was renewed, mostly because some of them have been playing these parts since the earlier days of The Vampire Diaries. While this may just be the fifth season of the show, it’s not the fifth year for many of these cast members.

The good news for The Originals is that regardless what the future holds, it does have a unique opportunity to retain a legacy — mostly in the form of Legacies, its long-planned spin-off series that is featuring Danielle Rose Russell as Hope. We know that The Vampire Diaries alum Matt Davis is appearing there, and we would be shocked if there wasn’t a character or two from The Originals to turn up over time. There may not be any hurry to introduce some familiar faces over there, as there is more than likely going to be a demand to turn that show into a carbon copy of this one. Everyone involved will likely want it to stand on its own two feet first.
