Into the Badlands season 3 and AMC’s missed return date opportunity
Over the weekend, AMC was at TCA in order to make many announcements, ones that included renewals for Fear the Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, and also McMafia, a BBC series that they help to produce. There was conversation about a number of different hits, but Into the Badlands and Dietland were the two that we felt were some of the biggest omissions.
With Into the Badlands in particular, the lack of a TCA announcement is a cause for a little bit of fear that there is not going to be new episodes coming on the air for a little while — at least not following Fear the Walking Dead a little bit later this summer. Maybe the series gets a chance following The Walking Dead, which would be wonderful for it, or over the course of the holiday season. The last thing that we want, though, is a long hiatus until January, given that the show would then have to air against awards shows and the NFL. That doesn’t make us all the more optimistic about a fourth season, which we’re rather nervous about in the first place.
Into the Badlands is a fun, action-packed, and very intense show with a lot of fantastic characters and interesting twists and turns along the way. It’s because of all of this that we think it’s a show like no other, and very much one that AMC needs to fight to save. Its ratings may be down in season 3, but given the change in lead-in we’re not sure how you would expect anything different.
