In this clip (via TV Guide), we got another reminder here that Beth is one of the series’ most-formidable characters. She is smart, but beyond just that incredibly manipulative. She knows what she wants, and she also thinks that she knows how to get. That also includes threatening the Governor Lynelle Perry for the amount of time that she’s spending around John. Perry thought that she had a way to one-up Beth, but she didn’t quite know precisely what she was getting herself into. At the end of this preview, we do think that the point has to go to Beth — she had more of the dirt, but also had a reason to fight.
Now, do we think that there’s a way that Beth could thwart Perry even beyond some of our expectations? It’s possible, but we don’t watch a sneak peek like this thinking that this is the end of the back-and-forth. Instead, we imagine that there is only going to be more trouble down the road for the two characters. We do love that, largely because the characters are really what will make Yellowstone a hit years down the road. We already know that it is off to a great start commercially, and with that, the next order of business is trying to figure out ways in which to keep people talking. The more material that you give Beth, the likelier it’s going to be that viewers will continue to enjoy the show. There are still a handful of episodes to go this season to keep telling this story.
