Timeless movie happening! Two-part finale airing during holiday season

Timeless lives! While it would have been wonderful to get many more seasons of the show, at least there is a proper send-off coming up.

Today, NBC confirmed that the series (which was previously canceled) will return for a two-hour episode (airing over the holidays) that will offer some closure to the story that we’ve had a chance to see so far. We obviously think that there could be so much more story that exists after the fact, but for now, this is at least a way to get answers on the cliffhanger and bring some of these characters closer to a happy ending — or at least what one looks like in their world.

In a statement, show executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke had the following to say about it:

“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing … We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”

It goes without saying that this is tremendous news and a credit to the fans, who fought hard and religiously to make something happen here. There were Twitter campaigns, and most famously there was a helicopter banner that flew over San Diego Comic-Con. They made it clear that they were not giving up and this two-hour special is going to be a gift to all of them. All of us here at CarterMatt are huge fans of the show and are so grateful that something could be worked out. It’s not a full-fledged season 3, but it’s so much better than the alternative in not getting a chance to see anything more at all.
