Dancing with the Stars: Juniors: Val Chmerkovskiy, Adam Rippon to judge
Today, the network confirmed that the judging panel for their new edition of the series is going to be composed of famed choreographer Mandy Moore (not the star of This Is Us), longtime Dancing with the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy, and also reigning Dancing with the Stars champion and Olympic ice skater Adam Rippon, who was a part of the all-athlete edition. It’s an interesting panel in that you’ve got three people who come from very different backgrounds. Moore, for example, could look at how contestants are handling the choreography, whereas Chmerkovskiy can take things on from a vantage point of technique. Meanwhile, Rippon can analyze things in terms of entertainment value.
ABC has yet to discuss/confirm the cast for Dancing with the Stars: Juniors, but we have a feeling that it will be a mix of Disney Channel stars, young actors, and then also the siblings / children of other famous people. We figure that there will be a pretty wide of array of contestants, but it’s not going to be stuffed full of super-familiar faces. While this does have the Dancing with the Stars label on it, at the same time it’s a new series in its own right and there will likely be some hesitancy of some people to take part in doing it. Taking part in any sort of reality series is a risk!
Probably the biggest thing that does continue to perplex us is the fact that ABC decided to schedule both this and also the latest season of Dancing with the Stars proper in the fall. Why not put the Junior season on in the summer? They are running a real risk here of overkill where people are getting too much of something that they love all at one time.
