Netflix comments on Save Timeless campaign, prospects dim

While we don’t want to give up on the idea of Timeless eventually landing somewhere, it doesn’t look like Netflix is in contention.

The streaming service today had its turn at the TCA Summer Press Tour, which is when networks and streaming providers get in front of journalists and talk about their upcoming slate of shows. Timeless ended up being one of the topics that came up, but unfortunately, vice president of original content Cindy Holland didn’t have any good news for Clockblockers. She made it clear that there are not any active discussions that she is aware of about saving the show … and it does feel like this is something that she would be aware of given her job.

Does that mean that Timeless is completely out of the running as a future contender? Not necessarily (anything can happen), but it doesn’t feel altogether likely. We always felt more hopeful about Amazon or Hulu, mostly because Netflix doesn’t have much of a connection to Timeless and it is an expensive show to make. Netflix would be taking a pretty enormous gamble putting it back on the air.

One other thing to remember here is that a two-hour movie over at NBC is still in contention, as well, to do a two-hour movie. There has not been any public discussion on that in a little while, but with NBC holding their own panel at TCA soon, we imagine that there is going to be some sort of question asked on the subject. We are still disappointed with them over the series’ cancellation, but if it is able to get a movie, then that can be potentially used as yet another rallying cry to try to get the show picked up somewhere else in the future. Any opportunity for the show to air again is a good opportunity.
