Outlander season 4: Sam Heughan on fulfillment, show’s ever-changing nature

Outlander season 4

We’ve certainly been blessed as of late with an embarrassment of riches when it comes to Sam Heughan news! That is what happens when you have someone promoting a movie like he is with The Spy Who Dumped Me. Sam plays Sebastian in the film, which is going to be in theaters in just under one week now!

Sam getting this project is a function of two different things: Talent and opportunity. We’ve seen his talent shine through on Outlanderand it is because of that and the show’s success that he has had an opportunity to do even more things. That led to him getting a major part in a U.S. studio movie, and beyond that, he’s got another role filming this summer in Bloodshot. In his recent interview with Facebook, Sam made it clear that he will be working on that project soon!

In a new interview with Parade, it was rather nice to hear Heughan reflect on the journey that has gotten him this far:

I’ve just come to a very settled place where I feel very fortunate. The job on Outlander is incredible and I work with an amazing team. I get to be creative every day and I also get amazing opportunities, like working on the movie with [Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis]. I got to learn from them. I actually have more projects coming up this year in the summer [like filming Bloodshot with Vin Diesel]. It’s given me some great opportunities and I feel very fortunate. Hopefully, I’ll continue to grow with each project that I do.

Sam also talked about the variety that comes with doing Outlander season 4, and some of the joys that of course come with being able to mix things up as much as he does:

It just changes all the time. The show is incredible. We’re ending our fourth season, and we’re shooting as if we were in North Carolina at the beginning of America. It’s a world with Native Americans and different factors, such as the British, and the Scottish people, who are displaced by the British arriving there. We started season one in Scotland in a castle, and we’ve since gone to Paris and Versailles, and then to the Caribbean.

Every season is different. In fact, every episode for me on Outlander is different. There’s always a challenge. It’s not like we go to work every day in a studio on the same set like a procedural. It really is very challenging.

Sam hasn’t shared too many details on the fourth season, but that’s understandable since this tour is more about the movie. Also, there’s going to be plenty of time to talk about it down the road! The thing that we’re the most curious about is how he remembers finer details about so many projects, especially when he often has to talk about them so long after they film! Remember, The Spy Who Dumped Me actually filmed last summer. By the time Bloodshot comes out, it will be more than likely in the midst of season 5 filming or later.

Remember that Outlander season 4 will officially premiere on Starz this November.
