NCIS: Los Angeles season 10: Should a character have a lengthy recovery?

NCIS: Los Angeles

As we approach NCIS: Los Angeles a little bit later this fall on CBS, it is clear that there are many questions still out there. How could there not be, given the circumstances?

At the moment, it’s fairly clear that there is a little bit more intrigue than there usually is between seasons, but that also means more mystery. With the status of many characters up in the air, all of the cast seems hesitant to confirm anything about who will/won’t be back. We do think, at least at the moment, that we are going to see more of Kensi and Sam for sure due to their social-media presence. As for Callen and Deeks, there is some more mystery there.

One of the things that we actually want to see the NCIS: Los Angeles producers explore more than anything else is this: The idea of an agent having to come back from a near-death experience. While we’ve seen these characters in critical situations before, what’s it like for them to have to recover from losing almost everything? We’ve seen this explored with Kensi in the past, and because of that, for example, it would be really interesting to see it with Deeks, someone who really was losing his interest in putting his life in danger at the end of the season. Does almost losing his life make him more interested in leaving, or does he find a newfound sense of purpose in his recovery? Having Kensi, someone who understands what it’s like to be in his position, at his side could offer up even more interesting perspective on the subject.

As for putting Callen in recovery, there could be some really interesting material to explore here, as well. This is someone who has spent the bulk of his life being fairly self-sufficient, and we have a hard time thinking that he would embrace the idea of others having to care for him and help him. It would provide a reason, though, to bring back Anna, though, for those of you who are fans of that relationship.
