Saturday Night Live: Leslie Jones ready to ‘battle’ Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon for Emmy

Leslie JonesThis month has been a very good one when it comes to some of the stars of Saturday Night Live and the Primetime Emmy Awards. Multiple cast members for the series got nominated, whether it be Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, or for the first time as a cast member Kenan Thompson. The latter nomination is one that is a long time coming, given just what he has meant to this franchise over the years.

In a new appearance on The Tonight Show this week, Jones herself said that she was just as happy for Kenan’s nomination as anyone’s, just because of everything that he brings to the show. Granted, she also expressed her adulation at her own nod and joked that she is ready to battle both Kate and Aidy in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category. She recognizes that this was a really big year for her in terms of some of the stuff that she had a chance to do and hopes that, moving forward, she’ll get to do even more and stretch herself as a performer in some other exciting ways.

Of course, if you are watching a video featuring Leslie Jones, you are watching it mostly in order to laugh. In this video, you can do just that as Leslie makes fun of some of her old headshots in a rather wonderful fun. she’s delightfully self-aware as she goes through some of them — as funny as this segment is, it’s also a reminder of just how inspirational a figure Leslie is. She’s someone who had a long road to success that included her doing stand-up for years on the road and tackling anything and everything to ensure that her dream became reality. Now, she is an Emmy nominee and one of the people most responsible for the energy surrounding this particular era of the show.
